Llanberis is best known as the start of the Snowdon Mountain Railway and of the pedestrian 'tourist route' up Snowdon. If you are a fit walker, you may well prefer another way up but the railway does enable the less advantaged to get to the top of a mountain and enjoy the views.
These are not the town's only attractions however. As well as its two lakes, Padarn and Peris, it has another railway. Dolbadarn castle, whereas not a fairy tale spectacular like Carnarvon or Conway, unlike them is one of very few surviving castles built by and for the Welsh in their struggles against the English. Then there is a fine slate museum.
