Travel guide to Granite City

Granite City is an industrial town in South-Central Illinois. At one time, there were three steel mills, three chemical companies, and numerous other industries in this city of almost 40,000. Some industry remains, but the population has decreased with the closing of several factories.

Granite City is located directly across the river from St. Louis, and therefore has access to the many cultural activities that can be found.

Perhaps the most famous thing about the city is its high school sports, especially wrestling and soccer (football). The Warriors were state champions in soccer for 11 different years in a 20 year span. Also, the wrestling team has the national record for the most wins in history. This past year, the team had a record of 34 W - 4 L.

The Chain of Rocks Canal and associated locks system runs from the north of Granite to the south. [edit text] [editors]
