Travel guide to Hawaii

Rainbow Falls

Hawaii or the Big Island has two main towns – Hilo and Kona. To see the active volcanoes, lava tubes, Rainbow Falls etc most people stay in Hilo.

Hilo is a small town that still has some old buildings that was saved from the tsunami and hurricanes that have hit the islands over the decades. The weather on this side is very changeable and it is always advised to walk with an umbrella or raincoat, as it can get also very chilly up by the craters and very wet in the rainforests. All beaches of this side of the island have black sand which gives it a somewhat romantic feel.

Kona is more of a seaside town, where you find most people just enjoying the sun. The weather is usually great, so for tourists there are many water activities available, however it is just as nice to sit in one of the roadside bars and have a drink. Also Kona is home to the first church on the State of Hawaii. [edit text] [editors]
