One of the quaint small cities in the MidWestern United States is Highland, Illinois. In the middle 1800's, immigrants from Switzerland came across the land in this area and believed it to resemble the area of high lands near their home villages. So, they settled and formed what became the city of Highland. This was he final home (and burial place) of the man who wrote the Swiss National Anthem.

The Latzer family beganfarming in the area and invented a way to condense the milk from their cattle. This became the Helvetia Dairy Company (later changed to Pet Milk).

Like many other midwestern cities, the 5 "B's" of activities are in evidence in Highland: Bowling, Baseball (Cardinals), Beer, Brats, and Bingo. These seem to be the favorite past times of the populace. Since this city is within 30 kilometers of St. Louis, there is a variety of local trips that a visitor could undertake.
