My Gran has been to Australia a couple of times in the past 10 years, visiting her daughters & their families.

The last time she went, she overstayed her visa, but she didnt realise until she was on her way home (shes in her 80's) it wasnt intentional.

However, they told her that its breaking the law. She wouldnt be able to return to Australia.

I have no idea how visas work etc. She needs to go to australia asap as one of her daughters has cancer, she really needs to be there for her daughter.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Many thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Overstaying a visa in any Country is a serious matter. However, I cannot think that the Australian authorities would deny an application on such humanitarian grounds.

I suggest that you contact the Australian authorities see www.australia.org.uk and discuss the case on your Gran's behalf with them . They will possibly require medical certificates and evidence etc.,

If problems occur contact your Grandmothers Member of Parliament and ask him/her to take the matter up with the Foreign Office.

Good Luck,

Brit
