I am new to this website, how does the point system work? What is the point in getting points and how do I earn points? Sorry to ask! --- Life is too short - live it!

Hi Mark
Welcome to the GLOBOsapiens community!
We are a happy bunch of travel enthusiasts and are happy to share our treasures with our fellow community members. Like that everybody can profit from our common knowledge and have more fun on their adventures.
In order to motivate people to start contributing the point system is a very good thing. So for every item you put into our community you are rewarded points and with the growth of your number of points the possible picture size increments too but only to a certain level :-) for the biggest possible picture size you'll have to go for premium membership ;-)
Later you'll find out that the points are not longer that important as you are rewarded with friendly comments about your reports, pics, slides... you get friendly messages in your guestbook and communicate with others through all the different means that GLOBO provides (contact function, guestbook, travel log, chat, postcards,...)
If you are after a rat race you can contribute as much as possible, you might find your member name on the left hand side of the page in the top three members as mine is on top right now... :-) wich in return will get you more visitors to your personal site here. The more you contribute the more you will advance in the overall member list as it is sortet by number of points at the moment britman is on top of that list but will shortly be taken over by davidx... :-)
If you are interested how people got their points together you can look it up on their activities page. Here's the link to david's for your convenient information:

Does this explain your question?
Feel free to browse the FAQ forum pages there is a lot of interesting stuff to read there or here in the what I like... oh and there's the intern talk forum which you will eventually have the possibility to access once you'll have assembled enough points ;-)
Have a great day!
Martin

As a matter of fact I doubt whether I shall overtake Brit - I've cleared my own backlog now so I shall only be putting up more reports and photos as i travel and I feel sure Brit must have some more to come on recent travels. I look forward to it. Secondly, I'm honestly not bothered. I know that I shall be overtaken before long by some other people who are leaping up the points and I look forward to seeing the fine entries that will take them past me. Obviously I shall be adding to my points - even writing this does so! - as I add destination reports and possibly some more travel tips but that's not why I do it. I do look sometimes but it's only a bit of fun.
On the other hand [I don't believe in false modesty] I'm thrilled to bits with the number of visitors to my site - you can find this at the top of your 'about me' page.
Cheers, D --- Grieve not for that which you cannot do but rejoice in that which you can.

Hey Mark
I see you've been busy accumulating points the last two days, great!
I jus did a bit of math: in two days you rated 195 reports of other members this is an average of 4.06 reports per hour if you would have been online the whole 48 hours not bad, lets assume that you spent a healty 8 hours in bed and spent another 3 hours with eating and drinking and 1 hour in the bath there are just 36 hours remaining 5.41 reports an hour. So you spent 11 minutes reading and rating reports and I'm sure you enjoyed them all and gave the authors some nice feedback... :-)
Anyway congratulations for going first place of the top 3 members at the moment, well done. Obviously my explanation of the point system was inspiring enough ;-)
have a great day

Lol. You mathmatician you. To be honest I have been working today, my work being - gaining as much research as possible for a number of global locations I am working on visiting this week. As I have been reading reports and taking notes I thought that I may as well rate them as well. I am not really bothered by the point system because as far as I can see, points dont mean prizes! I am just enjoying learning and there is no better people to learn from than those who have 'been there'. I will be researching more over the next few days. If I am honest, this site fascinates me. I love it! --- Life is too short - live it!
