The Other Vegas

  17 votes
If you've been to Vegas, you've undoubtedly wondered where all the people who work there actually live. My understanding is that Henderson was created (and is still highly being developed) as a place to house everyone.

Born is Henderson, Nevada. A pretty offbeat place that was created to give people who work in the casinos, bars, clubs and strip joints a place to live (sleep?). This is arguably the real Las Vegas -- 24 kilometers or so away from the strip.

Favourite spots:
Saporo (sushi joint), random vantage points that overlook the strip

What's really great:
This town is great! About 1% of the population is actually from Nevada. Artificial grass runs rampant (and looks real, too!) because you're actually in a desert somewhat elevated above the hustle. At 4-way intersections, people stop to let you cross the street. Something that was rare for me. :)

Accommodations:
Standard econo brands are copious. You don't really come here for luxury.

Other recommendations:
The coolest thing in Henderson may just be the car wash. Expect to spend about an hour here. No one is in a rush.
