Looks like this oak tree sprouted legs and climbed the palm tree which depicts the complex ecological make-up of the flora and fauna of the island. The island is made up of saltwater marshes, pines trees, hard-wood forest, live oak, maritime forest with a variety of palms trees, sand dunes, beaches and worth a visit to see for yourself what I might have missed.

What an interesting picture. What ever sort of oak tree is it?

zrusseff - Mar, 25 2008 12:03pm
David, it is a live oak - from what the ranger said, live oak trees don't lose their leaves during the winter. Thanks.

Thanks. I'd never heard of a live oak, although we have a form of evergreen oak in the UK. You may find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_oak interesting.

were there many trees like this in this spot? Looks very strange. I like your comment to the photo, I would never have guessed what it was

That is really cool.....I missed that on my trip there!

Jill, it was in front of the carriage house not far from the automobile grave yard; however, if you didn't take the same trail we did then you could have easily missed it.
