Hi all,
For the 2nd part of my trip I am thinking of heading to Langkawi Island.
Has anyone been there or heard anything about it, particularily the diving?
Also as I am going to spend 1-2 nights in KL, can anyone recommend anywhere to stay?
Thanks,
Kerrie

I can recommend Hotel Capitol, their website is www.capitol.com.my. but it is under construction at the moment.
It is on Jalan Bukit Bintang near S. Wang Plaza. --- “I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” Robert Louis Stevenson

Kuala Lumpur...I stayed at Hotel China Town Inn. Average accom in Chinatown. The night market sets up on the strret below so no traffic. Lots of food stalls set up so no problems with finding good food. I think the price was $20 per night. (85RM) Decent location and walking distance to the bus terminal. I also visited Langkawi. Didn't do any diving but enjoyed the island. Took a ferry from Pinang to get there. I have heard that the diving is better off the East coast of Malaysia. Have Fun!

Hi Kerrie,
For Kuala Lumpur I would suggest Novotel Century Hotel in Bukit Bintang. That's where the happenings and shopping district are located.
As for Langkawi try to go into this website - www.langkawitravelnet.com - a local website with map of langkawi, hotel discriptions and also live help where you could chat live. Try asking them if they could also make arrangement for hotels in Kuala Lumpur.
As for diving in Langkawi, Pulau Payar is the best option.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the tips.
I have been and returned back to Oz. Had a great trip.
Affendi you will surprised to learn that I did actually stay at the Novotel Century, which is being relaunched as The Royale Bintang on Jan 1. Great location but the rooms especially the bathrooms need revamping but would still stay again.
Had friends on Langkawi so def. went for the boutique Casa del Mar, very highly recommended.
Did not snorkel or dive as it did not promise anything fantastic.
Will be writing my reports as soon as I catch my breath at work, some pics already on line.
Cheers,
Kerrie

I've been to Langkawi a couple of years ago and we stayed at Mutiara Resort @ Burau Bay...very deserted alright about 15 min drive to town Kuah. Good thing was: we had this white sandy beaches to ourselves!!! :)
It's even worth it if you could rent a car and drive around the island which apparently we didn't! bummer! :(
Glad to hear that you had a nice time.. [ This Message was edited by: nashie on 2004-01-20 11:56 ] --- A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. :: Lao-tzu::
