Hi - In about 6 months (July/Aug 2003) I'll be going on a one-year working holiday visa to Australia to stay with a friend in Melbourne. I'll have about two months' worth of time to spend and some (moderate) savings and I want to take the best advantage of it before I have no choice but to start earning my keep. I would appreciate suggestions/recommendations of where I can visit OUTSIDE of Australia and New Zealand, as I'll be seeing more of these countries during the rest of the year. Also, is courrier travel popular in Oz, because I've gone and travelled to Europe from Canada/US on a shoestring thanks to that method. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
PS - places where I could stretch my dollar to the max would be best!! --- A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cash advance. -Unknown

Hi
I would suggest the Pacific Island - Fiji, Yahiti, New Caledonia etc. They are all beautiful and cheap and very accessible from New Zealand.

G'day Jeanette,
Australia is a big country and after you have been working for a while and start traveling about you'll find that you won't have all that much time left for visiting other places.
Why not restrict yourself to Australia, NZ and maybe Bali?
There will be good deals available from here ( Australia ) and from NZ to Bali.
Let me know if you need any Info on Australia, especially our Outback.
Save travels,
Mike --- Live and let live, Peace and happy travels to All. redcentre.com.au

Hi
Yes, I think it is good opportunity to visit Pacific Islands.
Agents offer inexpensive passes ( like Visit South Pacific Pass)
you can use to jump from iskland to island.
Air Nauru pass is probably last expensive but gives limited
choice of islands.
Enjoy!

Thank you all for the tips! I was very interested in the South Pacific islands pass, so thank you for the information. Can I buy it online? To clarify my situation: I will be taking it a bit "easy" the first couple of months, so I'll be having free time and some cash (in exchange for the Aussie friend who I have been hosting here in Montreal). I probably won't even start working until November or so, which is why I want to spend my time travelling around outside Australia. Any favorite places? I like doing more than just bumming on a beach, so if there are things you can suggest - learning about cultures, etc, just let me know! Thanks! Hi Jeanette
The rules for the VSPpass you can read here:
http://svc118.bne087du.server-web.com/en/vspp.htm
The choice of islands is wide - depending what you prefere.
Just keep in mind that the last expensive for the tourist
are Fiji and Western Samoa (they offer also interesting
folklore).
Enjoy!
