Happy New Year to all of You!

It seems I'll visit the highlights of Western Australia by rented car in March (anybody interested to join?). I tried to find in the net Australia route planner showing distances from A to B and most direct route... Can't find... Do You know such a site?

Thanks

Wojtek

Hello Mike!

Bingo!

That is exactly what I need! Thanks so much this sites are worth to recommend to other Globies!

Sinece you are our Australia' expert here you are -

my next problem:

Can I visit Karijini National Park in Pilbara using classic compact car?

Is Wittenoom reachable by compact and maybe there it is necessary to take a 4WD tour to go go the gorges?...

Thanks...

G'day Wojtekd,

When are going to visit that area?

The Kaijini Nat Park and most of the gorges there can be visited in a conventional 2WD car and the larger ones are better.

Most of the roads are well formed Gravel Roads and usually in good condition.

The only problem is that if you have a hired car and should you happen to have an accident then you will not have any insurance cover.

Nevertheless, many people travel there in 2WD cars and campervans.

I'm not quite sure what you call a "classic" compact car. The best would be one of the larger ones, like a Ford Falcon or a Holden.

Whenever you travel in that area, and other remote areas where there are gravel roads you must keep an eye on the weather.

Should it suddenly rain then some gravel roads become very slippery and also washed out. Then a 4WD is a distinct advantage or even a Must.

At times there is also much coarse and sharp gravel on those roads that can easily damage the cars tires. Foe that reason I never travel without 2 complete spare wheels.

If you are competent in changing tyres and have the right tools with you then you can get by with a spare inner tube and a spare tyre which can be a 2nd hand one.

I'll be there next during late Aug., early Sept. during the Wildflower time on a trip from Perth to Darwin. I will however be driving a 4WD.

Cheers for now,

Mike.
