Heathrow (LHR) is in Hounslow or Staines or Stanwell or somewhere inbetween, Stansted (STN) is in Stansted, Gatwick (LGW) is in Crawley, and Luton (LTN) is in Luton. Just being a smartass, really ;) jacko1 - Apr, 22 2009 05:04am Krys, you forgot to add the City Airport is not usually able to take international flights, funny though all the others advertise as being london airports when Luton and Stansted are 30/40 miles away and Gatwick might just as well be given the traffic getting there!, I shall now be your deputy smartass :=). basia - Apr, 22 2009 05:04am Tony, the plane landed at the airport in Stanted. jacko1 - Apr, 22 2009 05:04am Basia, that will be near London then, only about 1 hour's drive away.....:-). krisek - Apr, 22 2009 11:04pm Tony, London City Airport, actually, takes mainly international flights, there are many connections to Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, and even Spain and soon also to the US (direct business class only to New York). I love this airport. One can show up just 20 minutes before the scheduled departure and still be able to check in and board. Definitely the best airport for London, and it is only 20 minutes from the City on public transport! basia - Apr, 22 2009 11:04pm Unfortunately, the London City Airport, does not accept (yet) from the Polish aircraft. krisek - Apr, 23 2009 01:04am Basia, for a short time, there was a direct flight to Warsaw with British Airways. The Polish flag carrier had never flown to LCY. And the low fares airlines do not have the right aircraft or appropriately trained pilots (the descend to the airport is very steep - the pilots need special license) to be serving the airport. I am however glad that the airport is still expanding the the small Airbus 318 will be serving the airport soon (the business class only with BA will use this airplane). I live just 5 minutes by car from the airport... I used it a lot even to go to Africa, Americas and Asia - changing planes in either Germany or Switzerland - so much easier than using the terrible Heathrow. jacko1 - Apr, 23 2009 10:04am I made an error Krys, Globo has trained me so well that I have ceased to regard European cities as International which of course they are! I blame my new found drug habit! hehe. krisek - Apr, 23 2009 12:04pm Tony, hehe - at least according to your standards, when New York is added to the list of LCY's destinations, it will become an international airport also according to your standards... ;) jacko1 - Apr, 23 2009 07:04pm I always try to fly from Bristol (one hour, easy, drive away) you are so right about Heathrow, plus Gatwick etc, quite difficult to take a picture from a commercial aircraft, especially a good one. ps. the picture I mean! hehe.
