Québec City is the heart of French Canada, the centre of French-Canadian awareness. To many, Québec City looks and feels very European, but in reality Québec City looks and feels very Québec City - this place is totally unique. Nowhere else in North America is the appearance and atmosphere of an old-world city so complete.
Because of the Citadelle some have called (probably W. Churchill)Québec City the "Gibraltar of America."
To really appreciate the beauty of Québec City it should be seen from the river. The St Lawrence River has always played an important role in Québec City. Since its founding the city has been a major port.
The building, which dominates the Quebec City is the Hotel Chau Frontenac. This castle-like hotel with its towers and copper roofs is famous the world over.
