San Pedro, located on Ambergris Cayes, is a lively old fishing village that has now become a major dive destination. The island itself is such a narrow strip that, within San Pedro, there are streets from which you can see the beach on either side. San Pedro itself is a three block wide strip of dive shops, internet cafes, souvenier stands, restaurants and bars, many of them lining the beach, Look for BC's Beach BBQ, the Blue Grill and Celi's to name a few. The nightlife rocks on at midnight through the wee hours of the morning. The beaches are narrow but beautiful. Unfortunately, the water is shallow and filled with turtle grass, making it unswimable from the shore. Instead, take a dive from one of the many piers. Scuba reigns supreme here, and San Pedro offers some of world's best diving. Coral canyons and cuts, many offering swim-throughs, are just a few minutes boat ride away.
