As much as I had read about the Grand Palace, nothing prepared me for it's opulence and beautiful. A stunning contrast of architectural influences, the Grand Palace features Khmer, Burmese and Siamese spires reach toward the sun. Roofs peak and arch in opposing directions amidst a sea of colored mirror mosaics and porcelain floral trim. The bright colors and garish Garudas might seem to overwhelm but it all somehow works. The enclosure that surrounds the Temple compound features murals that tell the full story of the Ramakien.
