Tahoe Rim Trail |
Tahoe Rim Trail is one of the most beautiful hiking experiences in North America. At 165 miles total, it would take months to travel in full, but with 24 trail heads separating links, to do sections is quite easy. The trail links a series of pluvial lakes, easily fished for trout, that provide terrific backpack sites. Requires Backcountry Permits from Desolation Wilderness: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/recreation/wilderness/desowild/permits.shtml
The trail is only usable after June 1 and expect patches if snow until mid-July. Mid-October closes out the hiking season.
The vistas of Lake Tahoe are phenomenal but some of the best views simply look over the many lakes at sunset!
