Kopitiam Cafe |

A little bit more of Singapore in Milpitas. The word ‘kopitiam’ refers to the traditional coffee shops that you find predominantly in Malaysia and Singapore, and this place conveys the feel of the real deal with kaya toast, spicy laksa noodles, roti prata and strong coffee. Kaya is a jam or bread spread made from eggs, coconut milk, sugar and pandan leaves. A traditional kaya toast consists of two pieces of lightly-toasted bread with a layer of kaya and a layer of butter spread in-between; the sweet flavor of the coconut and pandan combined with the creamy richness of the butter is perfectly complimented by the robust flavor and aroma of the 'Kopi-O', a strong black coffee of a blend which is typical of what you would be served in the coffee shops of Singapore and Malaysia. The coffee, which is a bit bitter at first given the concentration of the brew but with a sweet finish, is somewhat similar to what is served in the San Jose Vietnamese coffee houses. Definitely worth a try!
