Hi:
I am planning to go to Barcelona (with two other friends).. we are looking for a nice, economic and clean hostel. We would like something near to the centre.. I have heard that “Las Ramblas” is not the best choice, but I still want something near to the touristy places… Can you help me???

I just came back from Barcelona..and stayed at about Gothic Point. It is well located, 5 steps far from a subway station (jaume 1). Also, you can go walking to “Las Ramblas”, like 5 minutes. Gothic is located near or in the Gothic Barri, which is one of the nicest places in Barcelona (is very “bohemio”).
The place has internet, separate bathrooms (for girls and boys).. The beds are ok,, you have a locker just behind for bed (for personal things) and bigger lockers outside the rooms. You have “privacy” in the room, although you share it with more people, because your bed is like a little room.. where you close a curtain and nobody sees you..
The breakfast was ok...juice, bread, fruit... coffe..
The staff organizes activities for young people, they take you to all the tourist places but cheaper than other places. In the night they take you to bars, nightclubs.. They have a person in charge of doing all this... Look at their web: http://www.gothicpoint.com/

Hi Daniella.. thanks for your help.
I checked the web site you sent me and the place looks very nice. I have read that Las Ramblas is not nice during the night, that's why I'm trying to avoid it, but if GOthic Point is still in the center and it really looks like the pictures I will give it a try...
Thanks again

Go to Sea Point HOstel.. The facilities there are fantastic. They are new, clean, and everything works! It was great being so close to the beach (especially in the middle of summer) and you're only about ten minutes away from the center of town. --- Veros

Barcelona is not a bigggg city, you won't have a problem is you want to stay near the beach (like Sea Point Hostel...) and go to the center of the city. But it depends on what are you looking for. If you want to spend more time relaxing, eating and spendings loads of time in the beach.. go to Sea Point. GOthic Point is more centric located... In my opinion with more facilities....
Good luck

Hi
In Barcelona public transportation is fantastic. The most important is to be near the metro. If you reserve something very central, you'll likely get ripped off. Much better quality and comfort, and most important specially for girls and families, friendly at night district can be found with little effort. www.expatriates.com is full of good priced accommodation offers
Cheers --- Life is short, enjoy it, every moment is precious
