Hi everybody,

welcome to this special forum. If you can read this topic, than you have more than 500 points and a membership for at least a month.

I would like to place discussions here which are not ment to be public. It is like a meeting in a company which you would not like to be hold in a public hall where everybody listens to your future plans, things which could hold off potential advertisers and so on.

This forum can not be read by search engines either, so everything in here is for the eyes and ears of the active member only.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Andy & fellow GLOBO’s,

Once again I agree with Andreas idea of using closed shop forums for such delicate matters as membership activity. We should not “air our dirty washing in public”! I base this observation on the simple philosophy that the more members that you have – the more you will get – people do like safety in numbers. Having said that, I am well aware that this site is free of membership charges and any (small) revenue that is acquired is done so from advertising commission alone. No shrewd advertiser will agree to advertise if they know or observe that the level of active membership is a fraction of the 10,000+ members shown.

I think that a lot of members who first join GLOBO (or any other membership website) are shy about putting their picture or details of their name or location on the internet until they know more about the site itself and its trustworthiness. Also many do not want their photos on show – preferring anonymity.

I think that the real reason is that many new members simply do not know how, or do not have the software, to reduce digital photos to the GLOBOsapiens acceptable size. Others do not have a scanner to digitise prints for submission. I think in any new version attention should be given to a page telling people how to do this.

Other new members are understandably hesitant of how to write a report, particularly when English is their second language. I know that we all learn by example and GLOBO is a great learning ground. Again, I think we should have a page helpfully explaining how to write and what a good report should contain. This could contain the names of several excellent text books on Travel writing all cheaply obtainable from Amazon – They could be the prizes for monthly competitions?

I know that my observations are the negatives. What we need are the positives. How can we get more members to remain and become more active? I shall put on my thinking cap.

Cheers to you all, I am just happy to be a member here and as such want to help Andreas who has committed his life to this site to make it the number one travel site on the internet!

Cheers!

Hi Andy

What a good idea to create this new forum.

I was aware that my post could produce some thoughts, but that was the point of it.

Your quick response in creating this forum is showing the importance in overall numbers when talking to sponsers....

If we can keep the level of active members or even make it bigger by the time we get 100000 there will be some 10000 posters! What an amazing amount of information that can be gathered then.

Thank you for your excellent work Andy!

Mortimer

Hey all sonly me!!

you may have noticed but I do frequent the chat room a tad!!! Well the thing thats come to my attention is that there is a high rate of people loggin on to chat and then sitting there and then getting kicked out. I think that when you get invited there should be a signal you can hear because many a time Ill be closing a feature and find someone has invited me to chat but because I look at the keyboard when I type and not the screen it means I miss the sign to go chat. Other people have noticed this too . I think the chat room is a great place to catch newies and intro youreself and help them out any way you can ...When I come on I send out a whole bunch of invites and go from there ......not only to the ladies I might add!!!! But its a great way to try and suck em in deeper to the site.

Not to kiss yer bum Andreas but the lads are right your doing a crackin job old lad!!!

This forum is an excellent idea and will make GLOBO's who qualify for it feel more involved. I found it because Andy told me. I always look at "content changes" to see what is new inthe forum. So without Andy's help I would not have found it.

I have a few suggestions:

Make it a bit more difficult to have access, as this is a priviledge for faithful members: so 750 points and membership of three months.

I think that when he member has been about for three months this member will stay and knows enough about the site to form an opinion and to give constructive feedback.

Once a member has got 750 points and has been a GLOBO for three months (s)he get a formal invitation to join this forum.

Hi Marianne,

I think we should keep the bar low for the moment. It can always be raised. Lets give the forum a start first.

About the invitation. That sounds excellent! I will think about that.

Regards,

Andy
