Lisdoonvarna - Ireland, Clare Just now the famous Alpine gentian violet is opening in profusion by the edge of the Atlantic ocean in pockets of soil in the Karst limestone Burren of County Clare. The blossom in the bottom right of the picture has unusually six petals compared to the normal five pointed star format.
