Known as the Blue City, your lasting memories of Jodpur will be its hill top Mehrangarh Fort, overlooking a sea of vivid bright blue buildings, the shade of sunlit saphires. This stunning 15th century fort, with its walls towering as high as 117 feet in the air, was built over a period of 400 years. Within the fort's walls sit a number of palaces and courtyards. The beautiful Moti Mahal dazzles the eyes as the sun shines through colorful stained glass windows, reflected in mirrored mosiacs. A series of seven gates secure its treasures, which include a vast array of palaquins, craddles, instruments, costumes and antique furniture, as well as an amazing weapons collection.
The teaming Sadar Market, marked by a 3 story clock tower, sits below the fort. Here you will find the Barber and the Dentist, their tools laid out on carpets on the ground, working on customers beneath a large shade tree. Stalls of bangles, fabrics, spices and fruit spread across several blocks. [edit text]
