Khortitsa - Ukraine As you can read by yourself, this is a monument devoted to the first Cossacks, erected in Khortitsa Island. Khortitsa Island is located in the middle of the Dnieper River, at a few kilometres from downtown Zaporizhzhia. But do not try to walk there, as I did, because you will arrive late. That is why my pictures are a little dark. But the place was still open and could see that centre of Cossacks civilization and the national museum and an old castle (being reconstructed) plus statues, a Neolithic altar and some other historical places. Nice place to visit, do not miss it if you happen to travel to Zaporizhzhia.
