Casa Cervantes |

The house where Miguel de Cervantes was born, in Alcalá de Henares, at about 20 kilometres from Madrid, is today a museum of two floors that you can visit free of charge.
Alcala de Henares is, besides, Patrimony of the Humankind according to UNESCO.
I strongly recommend you to spend a day in this town while in Madrid, because, apart from Casa Cervantes you will be able to visit the second oldest university in Spain (after Salamanca) and the sepulchre of his founder, the interesting personage Cardenal Cisneros (his life is more exciting than that of any adventurer of his time; he was ecclesiastic, politic, King regent, erudite, humanist, and a very brave man. Thanks to him Navarra is today inside Spain and not within France).
