This is an excellent museum in Plaza de España, in Montjuic Mountain, just in front of the Magic Fountains, in a building constructed for the Universal Exposition of 1929.
There you will find European and Spanish art from the year 1000 to the 1940s, with an impressive section devoted to the frescoes or mural paintings from the Churches of the Pyrenees Mountains, which have been recently declared UNESCO Patrimony of Humankind.
The museum also displays fantastic sets of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Modern art, apart from a great gathering of paintings from famous painters such as Mariano Fortuny, Jose Ribera (Spagnoletto) and from the private collection of the family Thyssen Bornemitsa, El Greco, Canaletto, several Impressionists, or posters from Toulouse Lautrec and great masterpieces from the Italian Quattrocento, the great Venetian masters of the Cinquecento and from the Spanish Golden Age.
