The Scottish Mission of Livingstonia |
|
|
Malawi is a small country with friendly people. There are cheap accommodations everywhere and good transport.
The number one visit, of course, is the Lake Malawi, the third largest in Africa after Victoria and Tanganyika.
Everything in Malawi reminds the great Scottish explorer David Livingstone. For instance, the country capital, Blantyre, was named after his place of birth.
The visit that impressed me more in Malawi was the one that I made to the Livingstonia Mission, at about 100 kilometres distance from the border with Tanzania.
First you have to get to Chitimba. From there you walk up about 15 kilometres (there have been some cases of robberies, therefore is better not to go alone, although I went alone and nothing happened to me). You can also hitchhike.
When you reach Livingstonia Mission (founded by Scottish missionaries), a huge stone building, you will have a splendid view and will feel in Scotland, in front of Lake Ness.
You can sleep in the Mission.
