I'm noticing an increasing amount of advertising being posted in the Forum lately, which has left me wondering, what is acceptable? To add insult to injury, these items are often repetedly posted in more than one Forum area! I understand that these offers of accomodation, paid guides, etc. could be useful for some people... is there already a more appropriate place for them? I was under the impression that advertising is not allowed here in the Forum, but I don't see those messages being deleted or the people who post them being educated about GLOBO community standards. I would hate to see the Forum devolve into nothing more than a screaming marketplace.
Please forgive my grouchy two cents! :-)

Hello Liz,
you are absolutly right! Unfortunatelly I have not been able to read all those posts since I am working on the "trave-tip" and "album" section, plus the amount of postings and content has increased as well.
Downundergal is moderating the first forums on GLOBO, but the others are moderated by myself.
If you like I could assign you moderation rights on some forums of your choice.
Let me know if you would like to bring order to the chaos :-) Your name would apear inside the forum as "moderated by whereisliz"
Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your quick response! I'd be happy to try my hand as a moderator, although I would need someone to fill-in for me if/when I go on long trips. But I'm not expecting to go anywhere for longer than a week or so until November at the earliest. If that's acceptable, I'd be glad to moderate some forums, and help free you to concentrate on other important GLOBO matters. Perhaps I could start with the forums under the "Miscellaneous" section, and see how it goes?
Cheers,

Hello Liz,
I have assigned you moderation status for those forums, plus I have created a "moderator" icon for moderators. Looks nice with your picture :-) You should also see some delete/edit buttons now, after you login inside your forums.
Have a good start and... welcome to GLOBOteam :-)

Cool! Can you remind me... is there anywhere that I can look refresh my memory about what actual rules there are regarding what is and is not acceptable for forum posts?
Also, do you have any text prepared to explain to "first-time offenders" what their options are if they wish to promote their accomodation or guide service or whatever on GLOBO?
Thanks,

For the moment the only rule is: NO advertisement at all.
No warnings, just delete the topic. If the same person starts posting over and over again forward the username to me and I will take care of it.
Currently we do offer GLOBObusiness accounts for tour operators, but my guess is, if they are after posting for free into the forum they are not willing to spend even 19€ for a year of advertisement.
Let me think about if there is a way for moderators to send automated emails with preformated texts to those people. I'll work something out in the future.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Again!
Sorry I just missed you in Chat (it took me a minute to switch over to Firefox!) 19€ for a year of advertisement, potentially reaching over 6000 members, seems like a very good deal to me.
An automated email system would be nice, but don't feel like you have to put it at the top of your list right now. I do fear that as this community grows, this problem of unwanted advertising could become much greater than it currently is... that's why I feel so strongly about "nipping it in the bud" now, while it is still manageable.
