I don't for a second imagine I'm the only member interested in archaeology. If you are, and you've not already tried, go to
http://www.stonepages.com/ where you can subscribe free to their newsletter.
They have some great stuff on the site but only from a few countries, whereas the newsletter covers discoveries all over the world.
Enjoy, David --- Grieve not for that which you cannot do but rejoice in that which you can.

I see what you mean by only a few countries. David, I have been to about 6 archeological sites in Mexico and Peru, and am always seeking the opportunity to discover more. Look at my recent photos from Plazuelas (more to come soon). This is an ancient culture of unknown origin. The first stones of the site were discovered in 1998. There were 2 - 3 years of protests from "concerned" groups that halted waork, But, the site was scheduled to open in late March or early April for sightseeing.
This culture lived from about AD 500 - AD 900, then disappeared. I was priviledged to meet the head archeologist and talk with him. We are still in contact to discuss new discoveries.

Thanks for the insight into this website, David. I'll continue researching into it. Do you have any plans to head out to any of these places in the near future? What do you recommend?

Hi Russ
We're saving the pennies at the moment for three weeks in Peru in September, when we should see masses of remains. Meanwhile we are only likely to see reasonably local things, which do come up in the newsletter from time to time.
I very much want to get to Orkney some time but I have seen most in Dartmoor and northwest Scotland and what I still call the Outer Hebrides.
Cheers, David

I was licky on this last one that I undertook. I helped lead a group of our students in a community service project and found the archeological site by accident. Meeting the chief archeologist has been one of my highest privileges. I understand about saving the money, though. I want to go to Guatemala to visit Tikal or back to Mexico in Chiapas to visit Palenque, but we shall see what the finances bring.
Thanks for all of the great contributions to Globo.
