Hi Travelix!
After so many journeys around the world i got my own conclusion about it when i was at the CangShan mountains, Dali (China).
For me, the journey (Travel) is not the question, it's the answer.
Travel is the phisical reaction to something that we have inside of us.
One impulse, one heart-beat.
Why we travel? - that's not the right question.
What makes we feel bad if we're so many time in the same place or what makes we feel the need of discover, explore, go further, meet other people, traditions ... ??
Maybe the answer is the need to travel. The Journey.
That's what i think.
I also think that backpacking is just another kind of travel.
The backpacker travel more free and can go to some places where the simple tourist can't go or can get some experiences and interaction with the locals that the other kinds of travelers can't get.
Well, but that's only what i think.
My modestly opinion.

thanks dani for your oppinion.
my personal oppinion about all that is ambivalent. on the one hand i´m addicted to travelling. i can´t stop and i need to chance places as often as somehow possible. for me i want to live a life less ordenary and therefor i have to travell. to open my mind to see other things other possibilities and forms of living...
and so on but on the other hand travelling is a privilledg. only few people can travel free. reasons terefore are f.e the have the wrong passport, nationality or simply can not efford enough money. others are forced to leave there homes andyes i think we should alwas bear in mind those things.
i always describe myself as a traveller. for me a backpacker is more on the beaten track and very sporadical (= little time on one place, doesnt learn the lokal languagge, uses most of the time the backpackers infrastructure). thats for shure my oppinion and my deffinition.
the jorney i think so too is what makes mobility that attractiv.
thats all for now.
hope to hear more from all of you

I'm sorry to spoil the romanticism of travelling, but I watch too much Discovery Channel so I feel a need to comment on this.
It might be that our need to travel has roots in the old-fashioned way of living. The human race was originally nomads. I think this might give some of us the need to travel (some more than others).
