Travel guide to Chan Chan

Peru - Chan Chan, Palacio Tschudi

Chan Chan is a UNESCO-listed, probably the largest mud-brick city in the world, built by the Chimu civilisation, and is still the largest pre-Columbian city in South America. It is so big that a modern Panamericana highway passes through it, since it was economically difficult to divert the road around the site. The majority of the city has now turned into a desert, and rains have ruined the site dramatically. The part, which can be visited, Palacio Tschudi, has been included on the list of site in danger, due to the rains, and requires constant maintenance to prevent the palace from disappearing completely.

Palacio Tschudi can be easily reached by taxi either form Trujillo (7km) or from Huanchaco (7km). The taxi would wait at the gate. I takes approximately an hour and a half to visit everything there. [edit text] [editors]
