Located at the entrance to the Golden Gate,the Presidio has been a military installation for more than 200 years.In 1776,the Presidio was fouded as a frontier station for the Spanish empire.In 1822,it became the northernmost outpost of the new Mexican republic.The Presidio is home to more than 400.000 pine and eucalyptus trees.
