Improved Ranking System?

I suggest an improved (or parallel second) ranking system that helps members who display really brilliant contributions and travel much more and further than we do. Alternative 1: Points should be awarded for QUALITY too, not only quantity. Ways to reward for quality: - extra points for the top 100 pictures and top 100 reports - points for awards and more category of awards - - BoM (Blog/Travellog-of-the-Month) - - NoM (Newbie/Rookie-of-the-Month) - - FoM (Face/portrait-of-the-Month) - - CoM (Chatter-of-the-Month) by lines written - points for best albums - extra points for the average rating of ones pictures and reports Alternative 2: The improvement does not have to be by points but in the list of members we could show for each member the: - number of their awards - number in the list of "Top 100" pictures - number in the list of "Top 100" reports To make space for this data, one could delete "province" from the list and show a flag and/or country code instead of the country name. This info needs not be updated continuously but perhaps updated only in the middle of each month. Alternative 3: Show the above data in a new section under the tab "more..." called "Stats" (statistics). Just a thought, anyone agree or disagree, indifferent? Would the extra points be permanent or always change, like if my picture drops out of the 100 best i loose the extra points? Are the top 100 just pictures with more than lets say 10 Votes so that we don't have the possibility of overrating and therefore points gathering? This brings me back to a thougth I mentioned in another topic, would we have a special Gallery with pics that are speically selected by members/moderators/staff to be there? Then we could award the gallery pics some extra points and they would stay permanently. The same could also be done for Reports and Slide Shows. No need for commitment, just a discussion of options :-) While 1:10 of people on the street are dishonest, I think in this very close GLOBOcommunity we have reduced dishonesty (and even spam) to a ratio of about 1:200! We must trust and accept every new member and their contributions, be on the aware though. No ranking or points system is perfect, also not in the serious multi-million sports world. My alternatives 2 & 3 are perhaps better initially, show and acknowledge contribution and quality initially by just listing statistics. The first alternative system above is intended to be fully automated without human input after staff award for quality, 100 (or better 500?) points are automatically credited to the members account. Similarly for current Top100 pictures and reports, the server simply adds or deducts points once a month (or if eventually possible continuously). A picture might fly out (then also the points) the next month, others climb up the list as more members rate those as excellent. We could do this for and extra 50 points for pics in the Top500? I like the idea of special joint QUALITY presentations. This would be easy in the gallery section where advanced members democratically put together a special community album of the best 100 slides every year - those slides then count extra 500 points each. I wish we could do more with the THEME:.... thing! Similarly somehow for reports. There is no limit to what a server can do, just, we must determine what it should do best for the whole community!
