Hi everybody,
I am wondering what the GLOBO members think about the new feature "Travel Guide". It's now online for 4 hours and Dani did already fill it with live (over 40 entries!!)
Please give some feedback. How do you like the interface, is it clear and understandable? Do you miss a category? General suggestions and all your thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you,
Andy

I thought that perhaps we might consider adding one more category to represent "hidden fun corners" or something to that effect. Most virtual travellers would like information on special sites/locations which other travellers chance upon. Like I know of a very secluded park in Perugia which affords an amazing view of Umbria - no guide book will ever have that on their pages. --- Lover of just five things - travelling, photography, thick crust pizzas, the xy-chromosomes, the Italians and the Dutch. Well, I can't count, so?

hmm... ok, sounds great. We just have to find a name for it which is more clear. Not everybody might know what is ment my that. It should be a shorter name as well. How about "special locations" ?

Sounds okay, or "Insider Locations/Spots". One problem, though, is this. Such special locations aren't the usual corner pub or backstreet bar of which one can simply provide the address and tel number. They might require more complex directions, so you might have to include "Walking Directions", etc. --- Lover of just five things - travelling, photography, thick crust pizzas, the xy-chromosomes, the Italians and the Dutch. I suggest you add one or more catagories regarding for example insurance offices at the border, where to get visa, tourist cards etc., embassies and consulates, local Red Cross, airlines, shipping or ferry companies and maybe "others".

Oh yeah!
The travel guide s a great feature! I just used it, and found some (small-I hope...) things that could be improved:
1) It would be great to have the same feature as in the picture upload region. If you wanna make a few entries for the same location in the travel guide you have to enter the name again and again. At the picture upload you're are asked (upload picture of same region".
2) The limit of 100 charakters discription is a little bit to low for my opion (I always had to shorten my statements). Maybe 150 or 200 charakters would be better?!
3) The phone number format was a little bit rigid for me: in Canada most cities have 2(!) area codes, that's why the numbers usually look like this "001.416.341.2770". I just left the last dot behind, but maybe there is a solution more flexible... just a suggestion.
Okay, that's just what I noticed by using this great feature. The other thing I can say: I love this site more everytime I log in...
Cheers,
Matt

thank you all for the great feedback! Some of the suggestions are already online since a few minutes. Pretty fast, right :-) Uploading is now possible with a "same region" button. Some other improvements and minor bug fixes have been done as well. All other suggestions are on the list and might be done in the next few days.
Please do also notice the new menu point Guide which is merging all the suggestions in a World Travel Guide.
I hope this feature will be benefitial to all of you. Currently there are more than 70 listings online. Every listing makes this tool more powerful!
Enjoy!
