frenchfrog - Dec, 03 2008 03:12pm This pic is from the Uros Islands on the Peruvian side not Bolivia. There are 4 main islands welcoming tourists: Toranipata, Huaca, Huacani and Santa Maria. The boat stopped at Toranipata island, where the local Uros live mainly from tourism by selling souvenirs. All the houses or huts on each island are built in reed, there is only one level, usually comprising of one room with a separate corner for the kitchen. Toranipata island even has a small museum with stuffed animals and birds found on the lake. davidx - Dec, 05 2008 06:12am Interesting that Isabelle has beaten me to it! There must have been masses of groups visiting the Uros since - but Isabelle and I were in the same group! Really good picture anyway.
