Hi Alaska-trippers:
would be cool to get together a group of 4 dedicated travellers, to organize a D.I.Y. low-budget summer trip in the largest state in the Union!
When? July 04--->July 16, 2011
Itinerary: Anchorage->Hope->Homer->Seward->Prince William Sound/Valdez->Wrangell/St-Elias->Anchorage ...
Transport: renting a car proves to be the most economic + flexible option, as public transport is not frequent and quite expensive.
Accommodation: pref. camping, hostelling or couchsurfing.
Looking 4ward to be joined by enthusiastic global-nomads :)

Jan,
This sounds very interesting! However, I would need more time of notice to make sure I can plan this trip in my calendar, get out of work, projects, etc.
Please let me know when you are planning a next trip like that.
Kind regards and good luck in completing the travel team.

Hi Krys
Jan here, the Alaska tripper from Belgium ;-)
I tried to chat, because I saw you were on line, but our system at work here refused connection :(
anyway, I read your message , thanks !
If you still can join us on the Alaska-journey time-wise,
of course you are more then welcome to join this trip!
I got another positive answer from another traveler, Oren, who wants to join as well.
So if you would still be free indeed, let me know.
We hope to get 4 p. together, that would be the ideal group,
not too big, not too small haha
anyway, you find a better itinerary here:

enjoy your day (in London?)
hope to hear you soon
cheers Jan

can't join you, but offering some advice. fuel is expensive in Alaska, so plan accordingly. you'll find hostels in Homer and Seward, but call them when getting to Anchorage to reserve. you'll arrive around the biggest holiday of the summer, so the roads will be crowded. try the FiddleHead Farm Hostel on East End Road in Homer. you will love the view. you may like Homer so much that you skip Seward to spend extra time there. from Whittier (about 80km S of Anchorage) you can take the Alaska Marine Highway(ferry) to Valdez. otherwise you backtrack all the way to Anchorage on the way to Valdez (about 900 km from Homer to Valdez). check with your car rental company. traveling the McCarthy Road to Wrangell-St.Elias Nat'l Park way not be allowed. it's a very rough road. have fun.
