Hello,
I'm a 25/f wanting to travel from Mexico to Costa Rica the first 3 weeks of November. I'm wondering how safe it would be to go alone since I don't know of anyone who could get the time off work to go with me. I'm a bit scared since I've never traveled outside the US, but I'm up for an adventure of backpacking and taking a bus down while seeing the jungles & ruins in Belize & Guatemala etc. It would be great if I could find a travel partner. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

A visit to my sister in Costa Rica (CR) is overdue. I would love to experience all of Central America starting in Cuba or Mexico. While travelling alone is always risky, one needs four or more eyes, I see no current warnings for the region except Colombia which is much further south. I will keep an eye out on info the next few months, sounds like a very interesting trip.

Hi Kellabunga,
My name is Des. I would love to accompany you to Costa Rica. I love traveling, and I'm on the same boat about not having anyone to travel with due to work, financial issues, school. I heard that Costa Rica is safe but again, anything could present itself. Let me know if you are still thinking of going!

Hi, I've had the same problem of not being able to find anyone this time of year who wants to take time off. As a young female I am a little concerned about safety and I would love to be able to have a travel buddy. I am leaving in the middle of september. Is anyone else planning to go? I hear costa rica during its green season can be quite beautiful!

like anywhere, there are dangerous areas that should be avoided. Common sense and awareness are extremly important when traveling alone.
I happen to perfer traveling alone however, while in Costa Rica I ran into very few other solo travelers. It's not really the back-packer type destination. Costa Rica in fact is well known for 2 things, prostitution and surf.
Stay away from the mjor city San Jose at night. Drugs and crime pepper the ruin run streets.
If the city atmosphere is what you desire try Escazu, only 20 minutes from the airport. Do not try to drive the streets of Costa Rica. There are very few street signs in fact, most locals and regulars give directions by describing the old church that burnt down which was replaced by a tree that blew over which is where you need to turn "up".??
--- glad to be here
