Does anyone on this website do this seriously, either as a freelancer or a professional staff writer?
I've started writing and mailed off queries and all that jazz, but I'd love to bounce ideas of other people if they are in the biz so to speak. If you are, let me know and maybe we can critique each other's work, offer advice, etc. --- "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." – Mark Twain

Hi James,
You raise an interesting point. It would be interesting to know how many GLOBOS are (more or less) professional writers.
I sent off query letters and hope some of my articles / travel stories will be published. So far I was lucky once. In return for my story I got a cheque, cashed it quickly before they changed their mind, and never heard again. Stories are sometimes bought on spec. I was told.
I like your idea of critiquing each other’s work., offering advice, suggestions. Any idea how we can do this here at GLOBO?

Well, I think once we have some people who are interested, we can always email our stuff to each other, or even post in it right here on Globo.
I think our Travel Log section might be okay, although we need to ask Andreas if this is okay or not. Or if he can add a small section for those of us who are interested in pursuing this. The other alternative is that we could maybe post our articles right in this forum, but in a separate thread that is only accessible to interns and those with 500+ points.

James,
I don't know if the Travel Log section is a good idea because, then we cannot read critiques etc given to others. A special section would be best. A section in the restricted forum would probably be easiest to materialize. But we must consult Andy. It would be nice to know how many people are interested.

Hi,
A good idea, because only ti sit at my desk and look at my writing is somewhat ineffective. I am not a professional travel writer, but I wrote a book about my twenty years of travelling in British Columbia, stupid me did it in English although I am German. Now I am stuck and would like to meet a Canadian native speaker to read it, to correct my language, and to advice me what to change. I will be on Mayne Island in August. Whether I ever will find a publisher is in the stars.

I'd be glad to proofread it for you. I'm a native Canadian English speaker who's lived in Alberta most of his life and travelled to BC about a half a dozen times. If you are interested, let me know. --- "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." – Mark Twain

This is how to post reports.
click on: REPORTS, in the blue box on the left. You will then be abe to fill in your destination. There are often more destination of the same name in various countries, so pick the right country. Then you can start writing your report.
I would urgently advise you to write your whole report first in Word. Sometimes connection is disrupted or you click on the wrong button and this means that you loose your text.
Click on PUBLISH THIS REPORT only when you have completely finished it. Only then does it become visible to other Globos. If you keep it unpublished it will appear in your list in red letters.
Some guidelines about writing reports. (they are very general)

I look forward reading your first report.
