Nov 23, 2008 07:00 PM All alone; well maybe not...

All alone; well maybe not... I know I shouldn't have been scared, but the prospect of teaching a class on my own was quite daunting. Anyway I was asked to supervised that the class for a couple of hours and be creative of what to engage the 12 students. Well my mind went blank, bearing mind I was only asked to teach computer studies general stuff was a little beyond me. Well that is what I thought but in the end it turned out quite good and was extremely fun. I have to say it was really difficult controlling all the kids. When I was giving my attention to one group, the others started acting out and vice versa. I was happy when 3 o'clock arrived.

Nov 19, 2008 07:00 PM Cultural awareness

Cultural awareness The day went so smoothly, I awoke a crack of dawn and decided to see what area I was staying in. My impression of Trinidad is that it isn't really a pretty island. I mean it has its pretty spots but overall people are just getting on with life. I also heard that it is now the leader in the Caribbean for crime (what a reputation to adopt????). But today I didn't have inkling. I was staying next to the Presidents new residence and it was a lovely building. As I took a few pictures the security guard cautioned me. But I had already done it…

We then headed for San Fernando first across the Lady Young Road. This is a find mountain round that gives wonderful views of Port of Spain (the capital) and all the way to the coast. It was unfortunate that I couldn’t stop to get that perfect shot. I will have to return.

I think to took around an hour to get to San Fernando – this area is popular and it is where the oil fields are located, so there is significant wealth here, although driving around you wouldn’t guess.

We headed to Naparima Bowl for the performance. I had heard of this place so many years ago, and now being here it seems a lot smaller than I expected. But everything ran so smoothly, all the schools turned up on time and the tight schedule was adhered to. The performance from my school was really wonderful, I would say the best, but that would be me being prejudice.

Nov 18, 2008 07:00 PM Another day another plane...

Another day another plane... So I now have to head back to Trinidad to attend a performace from the VSA of Trinidad & Tobago - to be fair I don't actually know what it stands from but it something to do with special needs children. I will find out and update soon.

Nov 17, 2008 07:00 PM Back to school

Back to school I have a such a nice welcome from my new colleagues, it felt really nice being back there. I ended up having a good and bad day. I had my first class that really went well. So much so that they were asking when the next class will be. I felt soo good, but by the afternoon it all changed. The older boys were a lot harder to control - so my plan is now baby sets. We will see how that works....

Nov 16, 2008 07:00 PM A lot to do, very little time

A lot to do, very little time I couldn't come all the way to Miami and not visit the Everglades. So as I don't have much time, I've just booked a half day trip. It is meant to be a 45 minute drive outside the city. An hour boat ride, a 30-minute alligator shop and then back down to collect my luggage - via the shopping mall to get the last few items. Before headding to the plane for 6pm. Easily doable.

I enjoyed hearing of the everglads, but truly after going to the Okavango Delta - I was expecting a little more. Don't get me wrong I liked the experience and would have never not done the trip, but I think children would enjoy this more. If I had more time I would have like to gone on the train, and experienced the less touristy place which was definitely a tourist trap.

Nov 15, 2008 07:00 PM It's my birthday - happy birthday.

It's my birthday - happy birthday. Ok the plans for the day, 8am breakfast, 9am beach for a couple of hours. 12pm shopping on Collins, 4pm 163 Street Mall, back to the hotel and then hit the town.

We had plans to go to Mangoes, what is meant to be a happening place but after a full day out just couldn't be bothered. I ended up with a Mac D and a smile on my face.

Nov 14, 2008 07:00 PM MIA - Missing in Action.

MIA - Missing in Action. So I took a day off work and now in the perfect place to enjoy the beach life. The only problem is that I've just come from the Caribbean and for me there are not better beaches then in the Caribbean. Today I've dedicated the day to shopping. All over town, where ever it takes me. I ended up in the Aventura Mall, quite a large mall with nearly all the brands you could think off. It was quiet far from where I'm staying but nearly worth the journey; as I could find what I was looking for.

Nov 13, 2008 07:00 PM What a long day....

What a long day.... Little islands can be very challenging, just to fly to Miami I have to first get a flight to Trinidad and then I'm bound on the AA flight. So what started out as a fun three hour trip has turned into a 6/7 hour affair. But hey I won't complain. It really is a wonderful way the spend a weekend. A little shopping, a little sightseeing and a bit of culture; what more can a girl want.

Nov 12, 2008 07:00 PM Up, up and away....

Up, up and away.... I've been working so hard (well for two weeks solid) so I think it is time for a break. Well not really, ok reallly.

To celebrate my birthday I think I'm going to Miami for the weekend.

It's a bit far to go for the weekend but could you believe the places closer actually cost much more. I looked at going to Guatemala, Caracus, Margarita, Martinique and Cuba and they all seemed cheaper coming from the UK than actually being in the region. I suppose this is the problem with the position in the Caribbean that Trinidad and Tobago has - it really isn't on the main flight path; almost an add on.
