Sep 11, 2008 02:00 PM Fire down below.

Fire down below. This is just want I need, I’m meant to be going to Brussels for the day next week and now I don’t know what is happening. Apparently the fire burned for 16 hours we can only imaging the damage. But they have cancelled all trains but are hoping to reopen the service soon.

Sep 10, 2008 02:00 PM 9/11 Channel Tunnel Fire

9/11 Channel Tunnel Fire Oh no not again, the channel tunnel is on fire again, apparently a truck burst into flames 7 miles into the tunnel and fire fighters on both sides have been battling the blaze.

Jul 09, 2008 02:00 PM Where to go next????

Where to go next???? I find myself with 10 days annual leave left for 2008 and I don't know what to do. I seem to be lost at present and can't figure out what part of the world I want to go to. I've ruled out south and central america as I will be there in November. But I don't know if you would like to suggest a journey I could take.

May 26, 2008 02:00 PM Petit vacation

Petit vacation I'm starting to really wonder whether small breaks really make sense.

I was also left wanting to actually still be there. I missed my little island, the peace, quiet and serernity. I think I needed just a few more days to relax and chill out.

But alas I had to go back to work - what now you may ask. And to be honest I'm not quite sure. The year started off with plans to go to Moscow, but since then things have changed and I'm not even sure what to do now. I want to take one maybe two more breaks aboard this year. Maybe Budapest, Israel or Guatemala? Who knows....

May 25, 2008 02:00 PM Every good thing must come to an end…

Every good thing must come to an end… I got up nice and early to watch the sunrise from my sea view room. I now wish I had a little more time on the Island. There are only two villages on the island with a total population of 150 and I didn’t even get to the next village. Today I would have just liked to make it too the village and then do some sea kayaking.

But alas I headed to the docks to ride the ferry one last time. The water was so still, it was almost like travelling on mirrors, and as the ferry swayed every so gently I wished that this didn’t have to end. I now want to do a cruise with every day being a different port. Watching the big ocean expand and contract before my very eyes.

As we were coming into dock we passed the Crystal Serenity just by the new bridge. The Crystal Serenity is a luxury cruise liner and a naked man just standing in his veranda oblivious that we could see everything. As the ferry nearly pass he realised that maybe standing out there stark naked wasn't the thing to do, he went back inside. By this time we were all laughing hysterically.

I was about to head into the old town again, but really just didn’t feel like it; after spending the day there yesterday, I had no desire to retrace my footsteps.

So all wasn’t lost, I decided to head for Montenegro. There was a bus from the bus station departing at 9.30 and returning 3pm. So that was my game plan. I check my stuff into the left luggage and headed off. I could go to my original destination, but decided to just head across the border. The first town was Igalo and then found my way down to the coastal town Herceg Novi. I explored, to old town, and it was pretty with a lot of places to have a coffee. I walked up to the fort, but didn’t really see any nice views. As I was leaving the attendant said I had to pay a €1. It wasn’t the money, it was more on principal but there weren’t any signs to say there was an entrance fee, and how did I know that he was just there to con tourists – I’m always suspicious. To be fair I really didn’t have any euros and he wouldn’t take Croatian kunas – so his loss.

By that time, I might as well make my way back. I had another cracking day and I’m really glad that I at least made it across the boarder; even if it was only for a few hours.

May 24, 2008 02:00 PM I want to go to Montenego

I want to go to Montenego I got up this morning with a desire to go to Montenegro. The couple I was sitting next to on the plane said it was only an hour's drive from Dubrovnik and then a little further on to where they were staying and I just wanted to make it across.

I caught the 8.15 ferry to the main land and then completely forgot my plans. I jumped on the bus that was just waiting and headed into the city centre. I decided to walk around the shops before it got too busy and it was just as well that I did. I was told that four cruise ships had pulled in and that would have meant around 6,000 extra tourist in the city. And they said this was the low season!

As we were coming into dock we passed the crystal serenity just by the new bridge. And a naked man just standing in his veranda oblivious that we could see every thing. As the ferry nearly pass he realised that maybe standing out there stark naked wasn't the thing to do, he went back inside. By this time we were all laughing hysterically.

I bought a few souvenirs and a really cool tee shirt and then ascended the wall. It cost 50kn around £4.50 and spent the next few hours walking around. I had brought a pack lunch with me and when I reached the highest point and found a shady place I sat for a little while.

I meet a couple from Melbourne who were on a five week bus tour of Europe. They were just into their third week and still loving every minute of it. This was the first time that they had left Australia and before getting to London, they had stopped of in Beijing and climbed the Great Wall. This was a once in a lifetime tour for them. They thought I was very lucky to just be able to pop across to Croatia for the weekend. I said there is a real difference of having a less than three hour flight to having a + four which was the case for them if they wanted to go to New Zealand. I do recognise that I'm very lucky to be living in London and having Europe at my feet.

So when they decided to eat their packed lunch I joined them and we sat there exchanging stories. They were off to Montenegro tomorrow and that’s when it dawned on me what I was meant to be doing today. I was going to get the public bus for £80kn into Montenegro – aarhhhhh darn it!!!

After lunch I finished the wall and headed for the coast to have a drink in one of those bars just outside the wall on the rocky cliff face.

There were so many other people who had the same idea. They were diving off into the azure luke warm Adriatic sea. If I had brought my swimming cozzy I probably would have joined in. But instead I sat back and watched.

I met these South Africans (I can remember names) and they were jumping of the cliffs. Man, it took some real guts and I could see the fear all over they face. One just chickened out; he was the sane one.

I decided to have some dinner before going back on the island, so as the sun started to dip, I headed for a costal restaurant for some wonderful fresh mussels and the smell was so alluring.

I got the times wrong for the ferry and turned up at 6.30 when it wasn't sailing until 8pm. I was in two minds of whether to go for a drink or just sit. I put on my headset and listened to some Bob Marley as the sunset in the docks.

Now what a day - I thoroughly enjoyed it. My feet are killing now.

May 23, 2008 02:00 PM Bosnia - on the road Mostar

Bosnia - on the road Mostar Well, this was not a planned visit but I'm so true to my word that I have to see as much as possible when I travel. I decided to do an organised tour. And it was the first time that I really enjoyed it. I just sat back and allowed them to drive me all other the place.

The day was well paced and it was so interesting getting an understanding of the area. I was so surprised to still see the scares of the war. A lot of the older buildings still had bullet and mortar holes. Some buildings were burnt out and gutted. But there were also the good things too. Seeing the old 'new' bridge, and understanding the history of the area.

May 22, 2008 02:00 PM What do you do when it's raining in London?

What do you do when it's raining in London? You hop on a plane to some where sunny.

And that was my intentions this bank holiday weekend. It was more of an 'ip dip sky blue, who's it, not you' as I decided where to go. The list included Budapest, Switzerland, Rome- Holy See and Croatia. It turned out that I had more of a desire to do Dubrovnik. I was meant to go last November when I purchased my travel guide, but ended up in India; so really it was the natural choice.

I'm not really sure what drew me to this area; I remember when I was much younger and my mother heard of the death of President Tito she was so disturbed, afraid that this could have prompted world war three. Bearing in mind she knew that WWI had started as a result of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary by a Bosnian Serb and living through WWII; she faired the stability of Europe. It only took 10 years before Yugoslavia began to fracture; resulting in ‘war’ breaking out and the period of 1991-1995 has now shaped the region. The six states that made up Yugoslavia are now all independent countries; even Kosovo has recently been declared a nation.

I suppose normally you don’t think of these things before travelling; as it has been at least 13 years of peace (at least to the outside world), but it was the back of my mind. I had also heard that Tito had a summer house in Croatia that would have been interesting to find.

May 22, 2008 02:00 PM Oh wow....

Oh wow.... My island is perfect, for a last minute decision I am soooo happy. I'm staying on one of three inhabatied Elafiti Islands just of the coast of Dubrovnik and it took 25 minutes from the port. In fact everything seemed to work out perfectly. As left the arrival to the left a dound an Atlas bus waiting to take me in to town. It dropped me at the bus depot and had a 10-minute walk to the port. On my way I passed a supermarket I got some supplies as I'm sure on the island things will be a little more expensive.

It turened out that I only had a fifteen minute wait, now that was way cool.

When I checked in I realised I had a sea view room; it was very tiny and basic but I was my home for four days.

May 08, 2008 02:00 PM Here comes the sun!!!

Here comes the sun!!! Finally the sun has got hits hat on and we just love it in the UK.

It's so nice to see the temperament of our citizen’s change; it now seems like everyone is smiling.

Days like this you need to either head for the coast or park or theme park.

I headed to Thorpe Park for a family's day out – not a bad day out.
