Apr 14, 2008 02:00 PM Do over in Paris

Do over in Paris Paris in sping is wonderful and experience that I've never had previously.

You know the Eurostar is quite brilliant it's only 2 hours 13 minutes to the heart of Paris. I got the train at six thirty and was at my first tourist site, Sacre Coeur by 10am. In the two hours I could have been in Manchester and to be fair I had to keep on pinching myself. I enjoyed the a day with Frenchfrog swishing around Paris on the Metro and saw so many of the sights from different angles then on my previous visits to Paris. It really is a a great day out; bring on Brussels...

Apr 13, 2008 02:00 PM A day away...

A day away... I haven't done a day trip away in a while. But tomorrow I head for Paris.

I have to say I'm quite excited; I've been to Paris about three times before and really thought I'd done all the tourist things. So I'm not too sure what to expect.

What do you do in a big city like paris:

1. Eiffel Tower
2. Notre Dame
3. The Seine
4. Lourve
5. Arc de Triomphe
6. Sacré Coeur
7. Musée d'Orsay
8. Invalides
9. Champs Elysées
10. Place de la Concorde

Ok, that's my top ten, now let me see what I do.

Mar 18, 2008 07:00 PM And now back to reality...

And now back to reality... Now back to work and as ususal the only thing that is left is the memories.

As I walked down the high street, I overheard a group of friends discussing their next holiday. '...this time next week we'll be in Kuala Lumpur...' I had a big grin across my face, as this time last week I was IN KL.

Now for the next trip.

Mar 17, 2008 07:00 PM Full circle...

Full circle... Well this is the exact position I'm in as when I started my trip in Dubai. Tapping away at the Business Centre's key board waiting. Now it's about waiting for the transfer to take me back to the airport.

I'm happy to say that the transfer is free and runs every two hours. I've been kind of pleased with the accomodation and it had a sort of homely feel for some reason. My only complaint was there must have been a towel shortage as it varied what items was left in the room on a daily basis. One day no bath mat, the other no hand towels; one day they will get it right.

This is really the worst part of the journey; I had waiting and there is nothing I can do to make the time pass faster. Oh well catch you later.

Mar 17, 2008 07:00 PM More of the same on the red eye.

More of the same on the red eye. Well, I'm now back home, and oh what a journey. It is amazing how far your can reach in a week and how much you can see and do.

Owing to bad planning (well more like not having enough leave), I had to head directly to the office and not pass GO!. This is all I needed after spending a sleepless night. You know when you have that child sitting behind you on the aircraft and they keep kicking your seat and playing with the table; the only differnce was the child was about 32 years old and she was upset that I reclined my chair. I had to remind her that this was econony class and that if she wanted more room she needed to head up to 1st class!

Well it is now time to start planning the next trip; ohh what am I like....

Mar 16, 2008 07:00 PM Alls well that ends well

Alls well that ends well Well my 10 days are over, and I will be heading back to the UK. What fun it has been discovering these cities.

At this point I'm so tired, decided to walk back to the hotel instead of taking a taxi. It seems the mode of transport is definitely taxis on this side of the Creek (Bur Dubia). They are fairly cheap - a charge of 3 AED and then 0.50 each km I think.

They're building a new metro system so a lot of the have some form of maintenance happpening. I can't imagine what this city is going to look like in the next five years. I've never been to a place with such rapid growth before. I can't wait to see the outcome.

Mar 16, 2008 07:00 PM Up the creek without a paddle

Up the creek without a paddle We headed for the creek again today, and decided to go for a ride. They have boats that cross to the other side for about 13pence or you can get the tourist boats for about 25AED/£3.50. We went to the Rolex twin towers expecting to do some shopping but it was very dissappointing. We found the underpass and crossed back to Bur Dubai and headed for the heritage centre.

That is a really nice experience, and well worth the visit.

Mar 15, 2008 07:00 PM Let's go skiing...

Let's go skiing... Ski Dubai boast of having five run. I was a little unsure what this actually meant. We were meant to ski for a full day, but I wasn't convinced. I think in general there are two decent runs that an hour to 2 hours is fine. Anthing more than that you would be bored out of your skull.

I wish I had taken some snow boarding lessons and choosen something differ instead of skiing as the runs weren't challenging at all and that would have made the experience more enjoyable. But what did I really expect - it's Dubai.

All in all I had a laugh, and enjoyed skiing. The snow was nice, not powdery or anything, but nice.

Mar 14, 2008 07:00 PM What's this Creek all about...

What's this Creek all about... This is the part of the holiday to just relax, and there is no need for rushing around. There was three things on my list as must dos - Visit the Burj, sand surf, and ski Dubai.

Yesterday the burj was coverd to day while we were meant to go into the desert, it just wasn't possible. I really didn't want to take a tour that included belly dancing, camel rides, dinner and then sand boarding; I just wanted to do hte sand boarding and they insisted that we do it all together. Do you know what, 'I ain't bothered'. I will do it another time, surely I will visit another desert that will offer it.

So today turned out of going down to the creek. Wondering around and checking out the floating restaurants. Dinner on the creek costs around 190AED - maybe 26 pounds.

Mar 13, 2008 07:00 PM The wee hours

The wee hours Well my trip is almost over and it has been incredible, this morning I arrived into Dubai for the second time and I'm being a bit cheap after blowing out on a 5* Diamond hotel in KLCC. I decided not to spend on an extra night accommodation so I'm checking emails until my room is ready. It is a small price to pay to save over 100 quid.

I'm yet to see the granduer that everyone always speaks of when refering to Dubai, so far it just seems like one building site. I was told that 70% (or some silly figure) of the world's cranes are in use in Dubai, I can well believe that.

But I must say all I seen are streets and streets of hotels, and apartment blocks.

As it happens I'm staying in an apartment block for the first time. And as I like to experience things, I'm quite kean to see what it is really like. I suppose if it is good I'll write a tip.
But fairly shortly I will be off to the beach well just after a spot of breakfast.
