Travel guide to Conwy
Conwy castle
Conwy castle
Conwy [or the English spelling Conway] is a coastal town in north Wales that used to form a terrible traffic bottleneck but is now passed by the A55 coastal road. This laves it more able to be enjoyed for its own sake.
It has a large castle, which was built by the victorious English under Edward I to keep the Welsh of the area under control.
An unusual feature of this particular castle is that the railway to Bangor and Holyhead passes right through it.
The A470 that heads south just to the east of Conwy follows the lovely Conwy River valley to Llanrwst and Bettws-a Coed. A left turn after a short way down it leads to Bodnant Gardens, some of the UK's finest. [edit text]  [editors]
