Perugia - Italy, Umbria The road you see is called Via Bagliona, it runs through the whole Rocca Paolina. Rocca Paolina is a castle, but it was destroyed. what you see is the underground construction. It was built between 1540 and 1543 for Pope Paul III just after the Salt War. The purpose of the fort was to confirm and strengthen the papacy's power over the city. It was designed by Antonio da Sangallo, who aslo designed the castel in Civita castellana( see my report). It is fascinating.
