Hello,

Does anybody know if this airport is open 24 hours per day? I have a 12 hour layover overnight and do not know if I will be able to sit in the airport all night long or will I be forced to leave the airport because the airport closes at night?

Thank you in advance for any information!

Steve

Steve,

Here is one of my favorite travel sites: http://www.azworldairports.com/cfm/frame.cfm?src=http://azworldairports.com/airports/p1860nbo.htm It gives basic information on airports around the world. According to AZ World Airports, Nairobi is open 24 hours.

Hi Steve

The Nairobi international airport is open 24 hours. I was there not long ago and spent the night. There are benches to rest and cafeterias, and many shops where you can bargain for wooden handicrafts and coffee grain in bags, but you will end up paying much more than in Nairobi!

Better do not go to Nairobi for only 12 hours, visa is expensive and the town has become dangerous.

The airport is definately open 2-4-7- and youll be pleasantly surprised at the renovations going on currently. upgraded lobbies and the like. there is also a consistent flow of taxis and buses plying the route fom the airport to The Nairobi city. should you require further arrangements you can contact me.

About safety in Nairobi:

here is a good guide to being safe in Nairobi.

1: Keep to your travel planner's itinerary. more often than not, they will make plans to areas that are safe.

2: Backpack out of the city: Backpacking is not a good idea in the city.

3: Keep to the "up town" Nairobi is divided into zones. anything downside of Tom Mboya avenue is dangerous. even "us" locals keep of as much as possible. However, there is an increasing number of Nairobi Central business district association security arrangements working just fine in the city. However generally, Nairobi is fairly safer tha most of its eastern africa counterparts.
