How strict is the requirement to make a reservation well in advance for National Parks and camp sites in Botswana. If one travels over 4WD tracks for three weeks, planning to the exact day is a bit dififcult. Further, we have a habit of changing our plans regularly during our trips. Anyone with experience in Botswana?

Any comments on Zambia as an alternative are also welcome.

And what about prices for park entry and camping? I've read/heard that it's much more expensive than Namibia or SA.

Hi Wouters

We just came back yesterday from a trip to mainly botswana just finishing of in zimbabwe and zambia.

We have been on a organised pioneer camping expedition with ccafrica (www.ccafrica.com). The tour was called botswana explorer $1750 10 days camping all activities, drinks and food included. We had an excellent guide who knew the region very well. He knew everything about the wildlife, plants and stars. If you are looking for a relaxed holiday, want to see as much an various wildlife as possible you better go guided. We met some self drivers but they missed quite a lot of animals which we saw. The organised tours usually stay on special campgrounds in the parks which are beautifully located and your group is alone in the campground.

If you want some more information you can contact me.

Hi Wouters, I am a tourgide in Southern Africa specializing in selfdrive 4x4 safaris. If you plan to travel to Botswana you will have to make your resservation for the National Parks in advance. You can not enter a Park without the resservation document faxed to you by the Ressevation Office in Maun or Gaborone. Send me a e-mail if you need more info manie@african4x4safaris.co.za

Regards

Manie
