My husband and I are travelling to the white desert in Egypt in September and we're sleeping in a tent for one night. I am concerned about 2 things:

1. scorpions and scarabs - any experience/advice?

2. going to the bathroom in the desert as a woman - do the tour guides bring something along to facilitate this?

I know one of the members went to the White Desert, maybe you would like to read her report:

I hope this helps

Thw White Desert is wonderful! When we went two years ago, we spent two night sleeping on the desert. We did not have tents - just a two sided wind screen. It was absolutely perfect!

We did not have any problems with scorpions. The guide did tell us to be careful and look before sitting. We did have scarab beattles at night but they just scampered around and did not touch us. We also had desert foxes come by at meal time to scavenge food. They were quite petite and absolutely beautiful!

With regard to bathrooms, we were pretty much on our own. If you are going with a group, I imagine that they probably provide some sort of pit toilet setup in a small enclosure. We were just the two of us and a guide. I back pack a lot while traveling and use http://www.go-girl.com/ which at least gets rid of some of the exposure.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! The Whote Desert will long be one of my favorites - it is AMAZING!

Thank you so much for replying to my e-mail with such comforting information. I have a go girl and used it in Cambodia a couple of years ago - it's helpful.

You must travel a lot. Do you have a site with more info on your travels? Where are you from?
