Tigre city is located 17 miles north of Buenos Aires and owes its name to the wild and beautiful Jaguars or Yaguaretés that inhabited the area until 1810. They scared villagers at night with loud roarings.
Tigre may be reached by train, a one-hour trip from the BA Retiro station.
Paseo Victorica bordering Lujan River is a lovely spot for walks. Try to avoid weekends if possible, as it gets packed with tourist both locals and foreigners.
Reconquista River is named to honour Irish-born William Brown, founder of Argentina’s navy that desembarqued with his troops during "Invasiones Inglesas".
According to some historians British soldiers didn´t want to fight but just enjoy life with beautiful "porteñas"( from BA dock) who received them with boiling oil...very friendly indeed!
There are several hotels in Tigre and in the Islands for a pleasant overnight stay. Try the ones crossing Parana de las Palmas River. Closer ones to Tigre are OK, touristy, especially on weekends [edit text][editors]
