any help would be appreciated on this:

I am looking to travel to Java next november, flying to Jakarta, then moving on to Yogya to see Borobudur.

From here i would like to move on to see Bromo, but have heard that it can be quite difficult to get to. So any suggestions would be really helpful.

From Yogya there are many van tours stopping at Mt Bromo on the way to Bali. I would assume you could join one and stop at Mt Bromo an return back to Yogja if not wanting to go to Bali. There were people on my tour that stayed at Mt Bromo and caught a later bus to Bali and others who joined van there. The vans however are packed with tourists, very uncomfortable, and the hotel it stops at on Mt Bromo is a dump. I did this trip 2000.

I also did this in 2000 the opposite direction. From Bali took a local bus to Probiliggo on Java. Arrived after dark around 7 or 8 pm. We were the only ones getting off the bus. There was a guy waiting who ran a local transport and tour company. He called for a minivan to take us up to Bromo. We arrived a little after 10pm and stayed at the Lava lodge. Got up around 5:30am and walked to Bromo's rim. Walked back to Lava Lodge for breakfast and about 12 noon the minivan picked us up and took us back down the mountain to Probiliggo. We had to wait around 2 hours for the bus to come through. It took us straight to Yogakarta and we arrived sometime after 10pm. I remember it being very cheap for all the transport.

Thanks for the replies :o)

Was any of these transfers booked in advance?

i.e. when you got off the bus at Probiliggo, was you expecting someone to take you to the Lava Lodge Hotel or was it just luck?

We planned none of it in advance. I assumed that the bus dropped us close to the agents house/office cause we were foreigners. Travel was the easiest part through Indonesia there always seemed to be someone willing to take us anywhere we wanted to go.
