Hi all,

I and my husband plan to travel to china next summer,2009 to see ther Mogao caves in Dunhuang, theLongmen Grottoes in Luoyang(Henan) Beijing and Shanghai. We want to make reservations at hotels and travel by plane to our destination. Is is required to travel with a tourist agency licensed guide or is it Ok to go on hour own. For visa we are asked for itinerary. Is it eanough to peovise a list of sites we plan to see and reservations to hotels and flights or we need an official guided tour?

Hi Elena,

you can of course go on your own, with a tourist via..but of course the major problem or question to solve is: are you fluent in chinese?

if not, then consider hiring a guide...you can travel by your own and hiring a guide only upon arrival in each city..shanghai, and Beijing are more or less ok without a guide, as english is more and more spoken; this is not really the case in Dunhuang and Luoyang. Booking a tour will also allow you with quite big discounts on hatel rates that you will obviously not get on your own.

Feel free to contact me if you need more info. I visited all places you mentionned.

Cheers

They are believed to affect purification and healing. Mandala sand painting was introduced by the Buddha himself. The mandala sand painting process begins with an opening ceremony, during which the lamas, or Tibetan priests, consecrate the site and call forth the forces of goodness.
