Cocos &Christmas Islands - how to get there?

Here is the question to our Australia experts: How to get on a cheap to Cocos and Christmas islands? I understand that they are a part of Australian territory. Are there ferries from the mainland? There are two Christmas Islands: one on the Pacific - accessible only from Hawaii and second on the Indian Ocean - close to Australia. Are you sure that they fly from Singapore to Australian one? Edited to add: I doubt it would be a direct flight, however.
