My son and two friends plan to see the Commonwealth Games in March 2006 in Melbourne and they want also to visit Sydney and Cairns. Any advice on how best to do this will be appreciated. e.g. is it much more expensive to fly to S one way from UK and back from M – or the opposite – than doing a straight return to one or the other?

What’s the best way for internal flights – direct application to the airline – if so, which – or through an agent?

Thanks in advance.

Hi David,

I am not sure of the pricing for an open jaw tix from the UK (ie in to M & out of Cairns or Sydney or vice versa) but I would first of all investigate the cost of purchasing an air pass in conjuction with your international ticket and then compare with just purchasing your internal flights separately.

Domestic airtravel has been revolutionised lately as competition increases here in Oz. You now have Qantas' budget arm Jetstar, Virgins' australian arm Virgin Blue & Qantas Domestic. For the best web site for deals I can recommend www.webjet.com.au as you can compare all 3 airline prices at once & pay a $4.95 booking fee if you book but go on to the individual sites to compare as they still can vary once again.

Keep in mind the incredible distance's you are planning on travelling, literally one end of Oz to the other - almost 3500km's from Cairns to Melbourne! If you can fly in one end and the other it would save you an awful lot of backtracking.

Hope this of help!

Cheers,

Kerrie

Thanks Kerrie

There's a fair bit there for them -and me - to work on.

Best wishes, David
