Hi everyone,

I'm thinking to make a trip to South-East Asia including the countries Vietnam, Laos, Cambodja, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in the beginning of next year. I' ll take 5-6 months for it. I'll travilling as a girl solo. Do you think it's save? Are there some other people who're having the same plan? Are there some places wich are really recommendable? I' m interested in all kind of information.

I've travelled all over Thailand and some of Cambodia on my own, girl solo. I have never had any problems. I've had the odd slimy taxi driver in Thailand who thinks he can sexually harrass you but if you always sit on the back seat and behind the passengers seat then it makes it really difficult for them. Other than that i'd say.. You GO GIRL!!

And you will always meet people travelling on their own or in small groups that will happily have you tag along if you get lonely. Have a great time!!

Would you risk it, for a biscuit?

I agree!! Go and have a great time. I have traveled around all of the countries you listed with no problems. There is so much to do and see. Just be smart and use that common sense!

I have been to all the countries you mentioned in SE Asia and they are reasonable safe outside of the normal precautions. The main time people male or female get into trouble is late night drinking in big cities. The biggest danger is if you rent a motorcycle. A lot of foreigners tend rent motorcycles and drive recklessly and end up seriously hurt in SE Asia. Highlights are tubing and hiking Bukit Lawang, beautiful Lake Toba, great cultural sites in Yogyakarta, beaches in Lombok, Phuket, Kao Tao, and Sihuanoukville, and great tours of the Mekong Delta and Halong Bay in Vietnam. Best backpackers town is Vang Vieng for hanging out, caving, and hiking in Laos.

Hi,

I have been living alone in malaysia over the past 2 years & sometimes things can get a bit hairy!! Have recently started carrying pepper spray with me after a rikshaw driver acted real funny. But do not carry it with you through the airport- it can be illegal. i bought it off a company that couriered the can to me- www.ursafeindia.com.

But really- if you take normal precautions- these r quite safe areas. Do remember malaysia is prdominantly muslim so follow the normal precautions... good luck gal...

Hey gambai,

I'm sure you will have a great time, but even if most people (including me in Laos, Malysia and Thailand) didn't have problems, you should take care. One never knows. Just listen to your inner voice and it will lead you safely. I could always count on that.

I wish you a great time and some wonderful experiences.
